[Saba Sports News] Danish star Viktor Axelsen, who won gold medals in men’s singles at both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, has had numerous encounters with legendary players Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan. Recently, Axelsen shared in an interview with Danish media that he finds Lee Chong Wei more challenging to face. Axelsen noted that during his early career when he faced Lee Chong Wei, the latter’s speed and sharpness made it difficult for him to cope. Whenever Axelsen attempted to play a high shot, Lee would immediately smash for a point, making him feel truly formidable. In contrast, when facing Lin Dan, Axelsen pointed out that Lin tends to play a more drop-and-lift style, which is relatively easier to handle. He mentioned that while Lin Dan’s shot placement is hard to predict, he can engage in longer rallies with him and look for scoring opportunities when Lin’s stamina decreases. Statistics show that Axelsen has struggled against Lee Chong Wei, losing 11 out of 14 encounters; however, he has had more success against Lin Dan, winning 6 out of 9 matches.
