[Saba Sports News] The West Indies have displayed resilience in the second Test against Australia in Brisbane, ending Day 3 with the hosts at 60/2, pursuing a 216-run target.
Commencing Day 3 at 13/1, leading by 35, Kavem Hodge entered his second innings in a stronger position following his vital first innings score of 71 from 194 balls. In the second innings, he contributed a steady 29 off 74 balls before an unfortunate run-out cut his time short.
Hodge impressed with his technique against Australia’s bowlers, but he also employed an unconventional method. During Nathan Lyon’s sixth over, he amusingly used his abdomen guard to deflect a ball, causing a stir among viewers. Australian broadcaster 7Cricket highlighted this moment on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), amusingly noting it as a unique ball deflection method. The clip quickly gained popularity, attracting approximately 175K views and numerous humorous responses.
In the meantime, West Indies were all out for 193, with no player reaching a half-century. Despite several starts, none could turn them into significant scores, with the last four wickets falling for just nine runs. Josh Hazlewood and Lyon each took three wickets, with Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green contributing as well.
Facing a 216-run target, Australia lost Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne early. Steve Smith, at 33, and Green, at nine, are still at the crease, with Australia needing another 156 runs for victory. The West Indies’ bowlers are set to aggressively seek the remaining eight Australian wickets on Day 4.
