[Saba Sports News] Abrar Ahmed is likely to play in the final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), starting January 03. His participation hinges on the recovery of his right leg, which he injured during a tour game in Canberra, causing him to miss the first two Tests.
Pakistan, trailing 0-2 in the series, is considering adding Ahmed as a specialist spinner, especially given the SCG’s reputation for favoring spin. However, his inclusion is contingent on his recovery. If Ahmed, who hails from Karachi, is not fit to play, spin all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz may make his series debut.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) previously noted that Ahmed’s symptoms had significantly improved but also acknowledged that he was not “100% asymptomatic,” indicating concerns about his match fitness.
It was reported that Ahmed, 25, has received injections, reflecting the team’s eagerness to have him for the New Year’s Test. His history of injuries adds uncertainty to his availability. Meanwhile, under Captain Shan Masood, Pakistan’s all-pace attack hasn’t yielded the desired results.
In a lighter moment, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hosted the team captains at Kirribilli House to ring in the New Year. Shan Masood shared the experience on social media, including meeting Glenn McGrath ahead of the Pink Test. His post read, “Starting off 2024 in Sydney, a day to remember at Kirribilli House hosted by PM @AlboMP and @scg for the #pinktest. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE ❤️.”
