[Saba Sports News] At just 23, Anthony Edwards may already be eyeing a surprising future beyond basketball.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star recently appeared alongside Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson in a preview for an upcoming ESPN feature, where Edwards made some unexpected remarks about his NBA career.
“I told my buddies, if I win a ring in the next three-to-four years, I’m going to play football,” Edwards said.
Already a multi-time NBA All-Star and a key figure for the Timberwolves, Edwards just led the team to their first conference finals in two decades and secured a $244 million contract extension through 2029.
Given his current success and future potential, it seems unlikely he’d trade basketball for the physically demanding sport of football.
However, Edwards has a strong football background, having played running back, quarterback, and cornerback during his youth, where he excelled on the Pop Warner circuit. If Edwards plays out his NBA contract and leads Minnesota to a title, he could have nearly $300 million in career earnings by age 28.
With his past interest in pulling a “Bo Jackson” and playing both sports, the right circumstances could entice Edwards to give football a try.
