[Saba Sports News] Even current players are criticizing Anthony Edwards for his recent comments.
Last month, the Minnesota Timberwolves guard upset many after saying that players before the 1990s, except for Michael Jordan, lacked “skill.” Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson, who won a combined seven NBA titles from 1980 to 1990, both responded harshly to Edwards’ remarks.
Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George also weighed in during Monday’s episode of his “Podcast P with Paul George,” saying, “I thought it was kind of disrespectful to the game… Anthony Edwards is super talented, but you’ve got to pay dues to those who came before us.”
While Edwards represents the modern NBA superstar, his comments were a sharp contrast to the usual respect athletes show for past generations. Even some of Edwards’ mentors were unhappy with his remarks.
