[Saba Sports News] Amy Burnett, an American wheelchair disabled player
currently competing in the Intercontinental Badminton Championships in Chile,
recently gave an interview expressing her hopes for the sport. Amy, who is 48
years old, was previously a tennis player but had her legs amputated due to an
accident. Despite entering the badminton field relatively late, she quickly
showcased her talent. She joined badminton in 2016 and has since climbed the
ranks, currently holding the 16th position in the world rankings and bringing
pride to her nation. Amy shared her aspiration to become the coach of the
wheelchair badminton team in the future. She believes that badminton, after
football, has the potential to become the second most popular sport worldwide.
Amy aims to foster more talent and raise awareness about the benefits of
badminton for people with disabilities, particularly wheelchair users. She
hopes to see more individuals with wheelchair disabilities joining badminton
and emphasizes that her experience with the national team should not mark the
beginning and end of wheelchair representation in the sport.
