Sports News] Fernando Alonso, the current F1 Aston Martin driver, recently
expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited pre-season testing time for the
new F1 season. In an interview with the media, Alonso questioned why F1 only
allows three days of pre-season testing. Each team is permitted a three-day
test before the season opener, but since only one car per team is allowed on
the track at a time, the drivers have to take turns testing, further
diminishing the available time. Alonso stated that he doesn’t understand why there
couldn’t be four days of testing, providing each driver with two full days. The
uneven number of days makes it challenging to divide the testing time among the
drivers. He raised this concern because the F1 calendar for the new season is
packed, with 24 races scheduled. The extensive race schedule leaves little time
for drivers to familiarize themselves with their new cars while also
maintaining the quality of competition. Alonso’s remarks are seen as valid by
some, considering the demanding nature of the F1 calendar and the limited
testing opportunities. However, it’s important to note that testing regulations
and schedules are determined by FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile)
and F1’s governing bodies, taking into account various factors such as
logistics, costs, and the overall structure of the championship.
