[Saba Sports News] The Paris Olympic Games kick off in less than 40 days on July 26, prompting participating players to embark on rigorous secret training sessions. Among them is Nigerian badminton star Anuoluwapo Opeyori, a quadruple winner of the African Badminton Championships and double champion of the African Games Badminton Singles Championships. He is headed to Italy for a three-week intense training camp before joining the Nigeria national team in Germany. As Nigeria’s top badminton player, Opeori will be the first Nigerian to participate in the men’s singles competition at the Olympic Games and the only one to represent his country in two consecutive Olympics. Since 2019, Opeori has dominated the African men’s singles competition. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he participated in the men’s doubles event and secured a respectable 9th place. Francis Orbih, President of the Nigeria Badminton Federation, addressed Opeori’s farewell ceremony, outlining the federation’s bespoke training plan for him, christened “Farewell”.
