[Saba Sports News] Following their remarkable performance in the recent ODI World Cup 2023, Afghanistan is set to continue their momentum during their UAE tour, playing three T20Is and two ODIs at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The ODIs are scheduled for December 25 and 27, with the T20I series starting on December 29 and continuing on December 31 and January 2.
Afghanistan, known as the ‘Blue Tigers,’ made a strong impact in the World Cup by defeating past champions like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, showcasing their rapidly growing cricket prowess. They are also gearing up for a three-match T20I series against India in January, and the matches in UAE will serve as vital preparation for this challenging tour.
Earlier this year, Afghanistan, led by Rashid Khan, won a closely contested three-match T20I series in UAE with a 2-1 victory. Naseeb Khan, CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, expressed satisfaction with their collaboration with the UAE Cricket Board, noting the earlier series laid a solid groundwork for their subsequent tournament performances. “The first series in UAE this year provided a strong platform for our preparation for the year’s tournaments. We look forward to replicating that success in the upcoming series,” Khan stated.
Mubashshir Usmani, General Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board, commended Afghanistan’s World Cup achievements and acknowledged their growing fan base in the UAE. He anticipates that the series will be highly beneficial for UAE players. “Hosting Afghanistan again is exciting. They impressed in the World Cup and have substantial support here. This series is an excellent opportunity for our players to compete against a formidable team,” Usmani remarked.
