[Saba Sports News] The Lislooney Badminton Club
successfully organized a 24-hour “Badminton Marathon” on December 28
and 29, 2023. Over 80 players gathered at Lislooney Church Hall in Tynan to
engage in non-stop badminton matches. The event raised over £2,000 in support
of hospice services in the southern region. Participants had the opportunity to
make their own pizzas and enjoyed complimentary breakfast, ice cream, and
refreshments. The event attracted the participation and donations of local
residents, with some donations made online. Hospice volunteer Flo McCall
attended the event and received the donation on behalf of the hospice. The
hospice services aim to provide support to patients facing a palliative
diagnosis, helping them adapt to their condition. Palliative care, originating
from the hospice movement, has become an integral part of comprehensive cancer
treatment, alongside prevention, early diagnosis, and radical treatment, as
outlined in the WHO’s cancer work plan. In recent years, badminton has gained
popularity as a means to raise funds for charitable causes, demonstrating its
wide-ranging appeal among the masses.
