[Saba Sports News] Chinese badminton star Chen
Lu, aged 22, revealed the extent of her injuries on social media, which include
a torn anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, medial
collateral ligament, as well as injuries to the medial and lateral meniscus.
Some fans expressed that even a single one of these injuries would be
significant for a professional player and could impact their career. Moreover,
the combination of Chen Lu’s injuries is considered “devastating” and
poses uncertainty regarding her recovery and ability to play again. It is
reported that Chen Lu sustained these injuries during the semi-finals against
Japanese player Tomoka Miyazaki at the Orleans Badminton Masters in France in
mid-March. Footage of the incident shows Chen Lu’s knee visibly twisting at the
moment of injury, and she was later taken out of the arena in a wheelchair.
Chen Lu has been one of China’s fastest-rising talents in women’s singles badminton
over the past two years, and she currently ranks among the top 100 women’s
singles players in the world. Her severe injury signifies a loss for Chinese
women’s singles badminton, as she had the potential to become a future leader
in the sport.
