(sabasports resport) Big deals are in the works for the New Orleans Pelicans, who are expected to make major changes to their roster for the 2024-25 season. According to Pelicans reporter Christian Clark, the team declined to offer Brandon Ingram a Max contract extension. If Ingram is traded, all three players from the Anthony Davis trade will be gone.
Ingram has one year left on his contract and will be eligible to sign a maximum four-year, $208 million extension starting July 7. While the Pelicans recognize Ingram’s talent and down-to-earth nature, they have no intention of offering him a Max contract with an average salary of $52 million.
For now, Pelican has three options:
1. Re-signing Ingram to a less-than-max contract;
2. Not renewing his contract and letting Ingram expire after the 2024-25 season;
3. Explore the Ingram deal.
The reason the Pelicans might consider a third option is Ingram’s poor on-court chemistry with Zion Williamson, the team was always going to build around. Trading Ingram could bring new opportunities and assets to the Pelicans, further improving their roster structure and setting them up for future success.
