[Saba Sports News] India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin surpassed legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble in terms of Test wickets taken on the home soil.
Kumble ended his career with a tally of 619 Test wickets, 350 of those were taken in India, while Ashwin has now gone past him with the dismissals of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in the ongoing the fourth Test match against England.
Ashwin got the wickets of Duckett and Pope on successive deliveries in the fourth over of England’s second innings on Day 3. This took him to 352 Test wickets in India, which is the highest for any bowler.
Notably, Ashwin had broken through a landmark figure of 500 Test wickets in the previous match of the series held in Rajkot.
He is only the second Indian and ninth overall cricketer to complete 500 wickets in the Test format.
