Martin: “It’s incredible to think about it now, it was almost nine or ten years ago. It feels like a long time ago in a way, but it also feels like yesterday, and it feels special to see that, when I was a little boy. I don’t remember what I was thinking or feeling, just trying to enjoy it, enjoy myself, live a good life and play good football. I needed a place where I could settle down and I did that at Arsenal.”

Martin has not found his niche at Real Madrid and admits that language is one of the things that has got him in trouble: “Maybe that was part of the problem, I felt caught in the middle, I was training with the first team but I wasn’t part of the first team, I was seen as the kid who came to train and they didn’t expect me to play, in the second team, I was the guy who trained with the first team and only trained with the second team players for a few days and then played.”
