[Saba Sports News] Australia opener David Warner is all set to play his third ODI World Cup, which will most probably be his last one as well as the southpaw, who is already 36 years old, is nearing retirement.
Warner, who has been a great asset to the Australian team, has already disclosed his plans for Test retirement, announcing that he will bid adieu to the format after playing the final one in Sydney, his hometown, against Pakistan in 2024.
While there is no confirmation on how long will he continue in white-ball cricket for Australia, the 2024 T20 World Cup will surely be a checkpoint in the back of his mind.
Even now that Warner is sitting just two days away from opening for Australia in their World Cup 2023 opener, the media cannot stop talking about his potential retirement arrangement.
Addressing these reports, Warner stated that he is being used as a clickbait and once his chapter closes, the media will be on the look out for someone else.
“I just can’t wait to finish, and then they’ll have to find someone else’s name to use as clickbait. It’s incredible. To be honest – if I’m being brutally honest, it’s actually been sickening. And that’s why I always put it back to the tea,” Warner told Fox Cricket.
“It’s about the team. It’s not about me and what I’m doing. For me, it’s about going out there and trying to put my best foot forward and playing to the best of my ability to put the team in a good position. That’s why I gave an end date,” he added.
Warner even communicated that he cannot wait to move on to commentary after he hangs his boots as a player.
“Because that’s when I’m ending – that’s when I intend to end. It’s when I intend to go home and spend some time with the family and live life and join you guys (Fox Cricket commentary). I can’t wait,” he concluded.
