[Saba Sports News] Only a few hours are left for India’s first match of the World Cup 2023 against Australia, which is scheduled to be played in Chennai.
In the pre-match presser, India captain Rohit Sharma gave an update on Shubman Gill, who is suffering from dengue.
On Friday, it was reported by that Shubman is down with dengue and did not even practice with the side on Wednesday and Thursday. It is likely that he will miss the opening game for India against the Aussies.
However, on the eve of the fixture, Rohit shared a major update on his opening partner Shubman, stating that he is not ruled out yet.
“The mood is pretty good. We have come well prepared and quite confident. Shubman Gill is not 100%. He is not fit but sick. We are monitoring him. He is still not ruled out,” Rohit said in a press conference.
Furthermore, Rohit gave his warm recovery message to the Punjab-born, wishing that he gets well soon.
“It doesn’t worry me but I feel for him. With me being a human being first, I want Shubman to get well soon. He’s a young guy, fit body so hopefully he’ll recover quickly,” he added.
If the 24-year-old fails to recover in time for India’s World Cup opener, it is most likely that the Ishan Kishan would start the proceedings with Rohit. KL Rahul is another opening option but the wicketkeeper-batter has already secured his place in the middle-order.
