[Saba Sports News] Mitchell Johnson made his feud with David Warner public when he revealed that the latter sent him “pretty bad” and “disappointing” text messages after he criticised Candice Warner for defending her husband’s place in the Test squad.
As the former Australia pacer disclosed on his podcast, this built up his frustration for Warner, which eventually led him to criticise him on several aspects from his attitude after the Sandpapergate to him being given an opportunity to choose his Test retirement date.
As the bad blood between these two former teammates continue to flare up, several cricketers have given their opinions on it with AB de Villiers also joining in on this bandwagon.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers opined that both Warner and Johnson should settle their dispute privately over a call and even advised the duo to discuss about the issues in-person.
“I just don’t like this public conversation between the two of them. Just pick up the phone and sort it out. Ask the guy let’s go out for a cold drink and sort the issues out. I feel there are some scars from the dressing room but don’t let the world get in on this,” de Villiers said as quoted.
The former South Africa batter further shared that Warner is a different individual on and off the field, talking about the experience he had with him when they shared the same dressing room in the Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals.
“I have played many cricket games with this guy (Warner) and on the field he can be brutal, but off the field, he is a gentle giant. He is a nice guy. Something switches on the field just like Dale Steyn. I have played with Davey at Delhi Daredevils and maybe there is a bit of short fuse sometimes. Maybe his and Mitch’s short fuse collided,” de Villiers added.
