[Saba Sports News] The FIA’s year-end awards gala took place in Baku,
Azerbaijan for the first time yesterday. During the event, the FIA announced
that next year’s awards show will be held in Rwanda, Africa. However, Lewis
Hamilton, a driver from the Mercedes-AMG team, expressed his dissatisfaction
with this decision, questioning the FIA’s commitment to sustainable
development. Hamilton argued that it would have been more convenient and
environmentally reasonable to hold the event at the FIA headquarters in Paris,
thus avoiding the carbon emissions associated with travel. He expressed concern
that the journey to Baku and back would contribute to greenhouse gas emissions
and harmful pollutants, thereby contributing to global warming. Some fans
countered Hamilton’s viewpoint, stating that holding competitions or award
shows in less developed countries can stimulate the local economy and promote
tourism, ultimately leading to overall prosperity. They also noted that even if
the awards party were held in Paris, guests would still have to travel by
plane, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions. It appears that Hamilton’s
concerns may be rooted in his own dissatisfaction with his performance during
the season.
