[Saba Sports News] Following South Africa’s five-wicket win over India in Gqeberha, Tabraiz Shamsi highlighted the significant role of T20 leagues in enhancing international cricket. Shamsi pointed out that these leagues are beneficial not just financially but also for skill enhancement and knowledge exchange among players. He countered the early notion of T20 leagues being mere financial ventures, emphasizing their value in offering diverse experiences.
Shamsi, speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, shared, “Initially, T20 leagues were viewed as purely profit-driven. However, playing across various leagues, you gain invaluable insights and skills.” He credited his own growth to his experiences in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), particularly with the Kitts & Nevis Patriots in 2015. This exposure, he said, made him feel at ease when he debuted for South Africa in the West Indies, as he was already familiar with the environment.
Highlighting the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) impact on young Indian cricketers, Shamsi noted how the league prepares players for international cricket by exposing them to large crowds and pressure situations. “The IPL has shown how it grooms Indian youngsters for the international stage, helping them handle pressure and success,” he remarked.
Shamsi also expressed optimism about South Africa’s own T20 league, SA20, predicting it will similarly prepare upcoming players for international challenges. “The SA20 is a great platform for South African cricket. While its impact may not be immediate, it will surely prepare future generations for the Proteas, allowing their natural talent to flourish,” Shamsi concluded.
