[Saba Sports News] Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is en route to South Africa for a two-match Test series, part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The series begins on December 26 at Centurion’s SuperSport Park, with a follow-up match on January 3, 2024, at Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground.
Kohli and team captain Rohit Sharma were rested for the T20Is and ODIs against South Africa. Kohli’s last match was India’s close loss to Australia in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The T20I series against South Africa ended in a 1-1 tie, and the three-match ODI series commences on December 17 at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.
Seen at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the ex-India skipper was wearing a brown jacket and had a duffle bag, taking time for a selfie with airport staff.
Kohli has a notable Test record against South Africa, scoring 1236 runs in 14 matches, including a high score of 254* in 2019. He’s played seven Tests in South Africa, scoring 719 runs, with a high of 153 in 2018. He’s hit three centuries and four half-centuries against them. Overall, Kohli has scored 8676 runs in Tests, with 29 centuries and an equal number of fifties.
