[Saba Sports News] Mumbai Indians (MI) Global Head of Performance Mahela Jayawardene cleared the air on Rohit Sharma’s future with the franchise.
As Mumbai Indians removed Rohit from the captaincy post ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, rumours floated that the 36-year-old will be leaving the side.
During an interview in the middle of the IPL 2024 auction, which took place in Dubai on Tuesday, Jayawardene praised Rohit, stating that the joint-most successful IPL skipper will stay with the team, remaining a part of MI’s rich legacy.
“We respect Fans emotions, Having Rohit in the team on and off the field to guide the next generation is very important for us. He is a fabulous individual, a fabulous leader. I am sure that he will be part of that legacy who will guide that through,” Jayawardene said as quoted on JioCinema.
Although Mumbai Indians did not went in with a huge purse in the auction as they had already traded their captain Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal, they still managed to make quite a few economical buys.
MI bolstered their pace unit, adding Gerald Coetzee (INR 5 crore), Nuwan Thushara (INR 4.80 crore) and Dilshan Madushanka (INR 4.60 crore) to the unit. They also roped in young domestic talents, namely Anshul Kamboj and Naman Dhir.
