[Saba Sports News] With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 approaching, the rumours of Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni’s future in the tournament are up in the air.
The upcoming IPL season is expected to be Dhoni’s last as a player. The ongoing three-year IPL cycle will come to an end in 2024 as a mega auction could take place ahead of the next edition.
Moreover, Dhoni underwent a left knee surgery soon after CSK lifted their fifth IPL trophy. He was seen hobbling on the field, playing in pain throughout the previous season.
When asked about Dhoni’s retirement plans, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan gave a laconic reply, saying that the 42-year-old will himself reveal it.
“That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do,” CSK CEO said as quoted by The Indian Express in an event on Saturday.
Viswanathan shared details on Dhoni’s fitness, disclosing that the wicketkeeper-batter will return to the nets in the next 10 days.
“He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days he’ll start working in the nets also,” he added.
As there are Lok Sabha elections planned in 2024 around the same time as IPL, there is a possibility that the competition could shift to a different country. However, Viswanathan more or less denied this, stating:
“I have no idea. They have not informed us anything about split schedule. What they have said is that we should be prepared to play IPL in India, this is what we got to hear from them during the auction.”
