[Saba Sports News] The 2024 F1 Grand
Prix season boasts a record-breaking 24 races. Transporting the equipment of 10
teams across 5 continents for 24 races within a span of 9 months presents a
significant logistical challenge that demands meticulous planning and precision.
The logistics team employs a combination of three transportation modes—road,
air, and water—to swiftly deliver the team’s equipment to each venue. When the
race is held in continental Europe, road transport becomes the primary method.
Specially designed trucks, adorned with the colors of each team, transport
cars, tools, and equipment to the race location. In the 2021 season alone, DHL,
the official logistics partner, transported a total of 1,540 tons of equipment
and 532 racing cars, covering over 74,500 miles. If air transport is utilized,
the equipment must reach the track 14 days ahead of the race. To ensure
fairness, the 10 teams can only commence setting up their own workshops once
all the goods have arrived. Sea freight, on the other hand, involves
approximately 120 sea containers primarily transporting non-urgent items such
as furniture or catering equipment to the race site. These containers typically
arrive at the track 8 to 10 days before the race. As the popularity of F1
continues to grow worldwide, the logistics team continually expands to meet the
evolving demands. Behind the fame of F1 drivers lies a group of unsung heroes
who work diligently behind the scenes.
