[Saba Sports News] Shardul Thakur is reportedly in good health following an incident during a net session in South Africa. The Indian all-rounder had a minor scare after being hit on his left shoulder during practice at Centurion on Saturday but is said to be fine now, as confirmed by a source within the Indian team.
The team’s medical staff did not deem any treatment necessary, and Thakur did not undergo any scans. He resumed batting shortly after the incident, with the source stating, “There is no concern at all. No problems.”
This happened during an optional training session following India’s loss in the first Test at Centurion. Thakur was practicing with throwdowns from a support staff member. The session was attended by a small group of players, including captain Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, and KS Bharat, along with the coaching staff.
The team is set to travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town for the second and final Test. While the playing XI for the Test at Newlands Stadium starting January 3 hasn’t been finalized, it’s unlikely that there will be changes to the wicketkeeper position, with KL Rahul expected to continue despite difficulties in the Centurion Test.
The selection focus is on whether Prasidh Krishna, who debuted in the first Test, will be retained. His performance is under scrutiny, and potential replacements include Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan. Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first Test due to back stiffness, is also available for selection, adding another dimension to the team’s strategy.
