[Saba Sports News] Japanese badminton star Kento
Momota recently secured a victory in the men’s singles event of the Japan
Badminton Championships, defeating Koki Watanabe 2-1. This win marked Momota’s
sixth All Japan Championship men’s singles title, making him the third player
in history to achieve the most victories in this prestigious tournament.
Despite this success, Momota’s chances of participating in the upcoming Paris
Olympics are uncertain. Following his unfortunate car accident in 2020, his
performance has not been as strong as before, and he experienced an early
elimination in the group stage of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Currently ranked
51st in Olympic points, Momota faces a challenging path to secure a spot in the
Paris Olympics. Nevertheless, his victory in the domestic competition has
provided him with a certain level of confidence during a period of low ebb. The
upcoming 2024 season presents an excellent opportunity for him to make a
comeback.
