[Saba Sports News] Not so long ago, Cheteshwar Pujara’s Test career seemed done and dusted. However, just as fast the night changes, the India Test cricket stalwart is back among the talks, riding on a first-class double hundred.
In Saurashtra’s first match of the Ranji Trophy 2024 against Jharkhand, Pujara notched a double hundred, his 17th in in first-class cricket.
Pujara looked as intentful as ever, scoring a brisk 243-run knock off 356 deliveries, going unbeaten to the dressing room after Saurashtra declared their innings at 578/4.
What this innings has done to Pujara could be the start of his Test career’s revival. He recently got dropped from the India squad after the World Test Championship final 2023 against Australia as the team management moved Shubman Gill to the No.3 spot.
Although there is a long way ahead for Pujara, him gaining back his midas touch and Shubman’s declining form can play a role in India change their mind to recalling the veteran.
The five-match Test start between India and England will commence on January 25 in Hyderabad and who knows, we might see head coach Rahul Dravid aka ‘The Wall’ bringing back his regen.
