[Saba Sports News] Ex-South Africa captain Faf du Plessis recently reflected on his time with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played from 2011 to 2021. During his 11-season tenure, du Plessis contributed significantly to CSK’s success, including two IPL victories. He highlighted the value of being in the CSK dressing room as a young player, especially under the guidance of captain MS Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming. Du Plessis described this period as a major learning experience, where he spent his first season keenly observing and asking questions.
Du Plessis particularly praised Dhoni’s composure under pressure, noting his ability to stay calm, which positively impacted the bowling attack. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play under Dhoni’s leadership, calling him “Captain Cool.”
Looking ahead, du Plessis is set to lead Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 2024. He’ll begin his campaign against the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, on January 10, 2024.
Among his notable performances for CSK, du Plessis’ innings in the IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad stands out. He scored a crucial 67 off 42 balls to lead his team to victory from a challenging position of 62/6. Another memorable knock was his unbeaten 86 off 59 balls in the IPL 2021 final against Kolkata Knight Riders, earning him the Player of the Match award.
