[Saba Sports News] Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed his amusement at the measurement of the speed guns during the recently-concluded Test series against Australia.
The Pakistan pace attack led by Shaheen became a subject of criticism because of the reason as revealed by the fast-bowler himself that their speed lingered around the 132-133 kmph mark.
Shaheen doubted the authenticity of the speed guns, questioning if it was pre-decided to keep the measurements on the lower side.
“To be honest, we were ourselves looking at the speed o’ meters and wondering, is this really us? Because we were unable to understand that despite putting in all the effort, the speeds were not going up. Seeing 130-132 kph was disheartening and we thought this was pre-decided that we won’t go above 130 kph,” Shaheen said as quoted ahead of the first T20I against New Zealand.
Shaheen’s first assignment as Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain will start on Friday. The five-match T20I series will kick off at the Eden Park in Auckland.
“It’s an exciting challenge and a proud moment for me to represent Pakistan. Being a first-time captain, it’s a new challenge, especially in New Zealand. Although we have a strong track record against New Zealand, they are one of the best teams globally, so we’ll strive to give our best,” Shaheen stated.
