[Saba Sports News] Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, iconic figures in Chicago Bulls history, have both chosen not to attend the Bulls’ inaugural Ring of Honor event. As reported by Justin Terranova of the New York Post, this decision comes amid their ongoing feud. The Bulls are introducing a Ring of Honor for the first time, celebrating franchise legends, including Jordan and Pippen, as part of the 2024 inaugural class.
Both Jordan and Pippen informed the team in advance of their decision not to participate in the festivities, which feature a gala and a halftime ceremony during the Bulls’ game against the Golden State Warriors. Dennis Rodman, another key member of the Bulls’ success in the 1990s, was also absent.
Attendees included Phil Jackson, Toni Kukoc, Luc Longley, and Ron Harper. Jordan, while not present, sent a video message expressing his best wishes to fellow honorees and regret for his absence.
The rift between Jordan and Pippen has been exacerbated in recent years, particularly after Pippen’s negative portrayal in the Jordan-endorsed ESPN docuseries “The Last Dance.” Pippen’s departure as a Bulls ambassador in 2020 and his ex-wife Larsa’s current relationship with Jordan’s son Marcus add further complexity to their relationship. Despite this, there remains a possibility for reconciliation, although some former teammates are skeptical.
