[Saba Sports News] Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George is set to make his 2024-25 season debut against the Phoenix Suns, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.
George, who hyperextended his left knee in a preseason win over the Atlanta Hawks on October 14, sustained a bone bruise but avoided structural damage. He has been gradually returning to form, recently participating in scrimmages during practices.
Barring any setbacks, Charania notes that George will play his first regular-season game since joining the Sixers this offseason. He appeared in only two preseason games, including the one where he was injured in the second quarter.
“I had a really good two days of finally being on-court and practicing and running hard and being in live action,” George said on Friday, noting that conditioning was the last step before his return. “The knee up to this point feels really good.”
The 76ers have started the 2024-25 season 1-4, most recently losing to the Memphis Grizzlies at home. Their offense has struggled, lacking shooting and playmaking—areas where George will be a major boost, alleviating pressure on Tyrese Maxey, who has been the primary option without reliable scoring support.
The Sixers will face George’s former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, on Wednesday and then play the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday to conclude their road trip. Their next home game is on Sunday, October 10, against the Charlotte Hornets.
Joel Embiid will remain out as he manages a left knee condition, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. George is listed as questionable but his return could be pivotal in helping the Sixers turn their season around.
