[Saba Sports News] The Indian Badminton Open,
which was part of the 2024 BWF World Tour, recently concluded, and players from
around the world have begun their journey back. However, there have been
renewed criticisms regarding environmental issues at the tournament. Malaysian
women’s doubles player Lim Chiew Sien recently took to social media to express
her dissatisfaction with the environmental conditions during the Indian
Badminton Open. She complained about constant bird droppings and dust falling
during her match against players from Hong Kong, China. These interruptions
affected the flow of the game and the players’ mental state, ultimately
resulting in a 1-2 loss. This is not the first time that international
badminton players have raised concerns about environmental problems in Indian
arenas. During the India Dermody International Badminton Tournament at the end
of last year, players from various countries voiced similar complaints about
stadium and hotel conditions on social media. Despite several months passing
since then, it appears that these environmental issues have not been adequately
addressed, which is disappointing.
