[Saba Sports] Victor Oladipo recently shared the tough reality of NBA trades on the *OGs* podcast, recalling how he was blindsided by the Oklahoma City Thunder trading him right after he’d bought a house. Oladipo explained, “I got traded from OKC. Didn’t even know… just bought a crib, told them I was buying a crib.”
His journey involved three team moves in one year—from Orlando to OKC, then to Indiana—all without prior warning. Both trades caught him mid-flight, only learning of each move upon landing and turning on his phone to a barrage of notifications.
Despite committing to a role in OKC alongside Russell Westbrook, the Thunder’s quick decision showed him the business side of the NBA.
His story reflects the abrupt, often impersonal nature of trades, reminding fans that players, too, face the disruptive realities of professional basketball.
