[Saba Sports News] Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have solidified their long-term commitment to each other.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Embiid has signed a 3-year, $193 million max contract extension, keeping him under contract with the team for the next five seasons at over $300 million, one of the richest deals in NBA history. Embiid confirmed the news on Instagram, writing:
“Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career. I love this community and everything you’ve given me and my family. There’s a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship, and I think we’re just getting started! #TrustTheProcess.”
Though frustrations over playoff struggles led some to speculate he might eventually request a trade, Embiid remains focused on leading the 76ers to a championship.
Coming off a season where he averaged a career-high 34.7 points per game despite injuries, Embiid is committed to pushing the team over the finish line.
