[Saba Sports News] Vince Carter played for eight different NBA teams, but the first to retire his jersey might surprise you.
According to sources, the Brooklyn Nets plan to retire Carter’s No. 15 jersey on Jan. 25, 2025, during a game against the Miami Heat at Barclays Center.
Carter, now 47, played for the Nets from 2004 to 2009, when they were still the New Jersey Nets. He earned two All-Star nods and averaged 23.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game during his time there. However, it’s surprising to many since his tenure was relatively short, and the team didn’t achieve much success, failing to advance past the second round of the playoffs before trading him to Orlando in 2009.
Despite this, Carter has maintained a strong connection with the Nets, even joining YES Network as an analyst in 2023. He will become the seventh player in franchise history to have his number retired.
As for the Toronto Raptors, the team Carter is most closely associated with, it’s unclear if they will also retire his jersey. Though their relationship has been complicated, signs of improvement are evident.
