Devin Higgs, born in April 2000, was a finalist in last year’s NBA Draft. He spent the first half of last season with the College Park Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks’ affiliate in the NBA Development League, but was cut in January after underperforming. He then joined the Pistons’ N.B.A. Development League affiliate, Motor City Cruise. In the D-League, Higgs averaged 6.1 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks in 20.3 minutes per game in 26 appearances while shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from three-point range and 51.7 percent from free throw range. Despite his improved performance at Motorcycle Patrol, he is still a regular role player on the team’s roster.
Higgs also made three appearances for the Pistons in the NBA Summer League, averaging 3.7 minutes per game, 1 point, 0.3 rebounds, and 25 percent field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. His summer league performance has not improved significantly, the offensive efficiency is lower, and his playing time is limited as a result. That suggests he hasn’t really improved, and his season in the NBA’s D-League doesn’t seem to have helped him find his form.
