[Saba Sports News] Shaquille O’Neal has frequently targeted Rudy Gobert with criticism, but his latest remarks finally drew a response from the Timberwolves center.
In a recent Complex interview, O’Neal was asked to name the worst NBA player, and he quickly mentioned Gobert, pointing to his large contract as a major factor. “If you sign for $250 million, show me $250,” Shaq said. He criticized Gobert, adding, “Guys like him are messing up the system, making all this money but can’t play. I don’t respect that.”
Gobert responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “It’s sad to see someone who’s accomplished so much, @SHAQ, still be triggered by another man’s finances and achievements. I get the entertainment angle, but you don’t need that to stay relevant.”
Gobert’s contract is actually worth $205 million, though that likely wouldn’t matter much to Shaq, who has repeatedly called him an overrated defender. Shaq has even admitted to being envious of modern NBA salaries.
Despite the back-and-forth, Gobert mostly took the high road in his response, staying calm even amid O’Neal’s persistent critiques.
