[Saba Sports News] Since the South African Grand Prix was held in Kyalami in 1993, F1 has not visited Africa. In recent years, British driver Lewis Hamilton has been one of the biggest supporters of F1’s return to Africa. During F1’s summer break, Hamilton traveled to the African continent to participate in two independent projects, planning to host a small F1 race in Africa before his retirement. Although Hamilton has explored this project extensively, his dream has yet to be realized. Other countries on the African continent are also eager to get a piece of the action, with Tanzania being one of them. Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella, who has won three F1 races in his career, is involved in bringing F1 to the streets of Zanzibar in Tanzania and serves as an ambassador for the project, providing valuable input for the design of the race track. Fisichella shared details about this project through Betway with Mirror Sport, discussing its progress and stating that efforts are underway to raise funds for hosting the race. It is reported that Tanzania not only wants to build a race track but also aims to develop infrastructure to boost tourism and related industries.
