[Saba Sports News] Magic Johnson didn’t hold back in responding to Anthony Edwards’ recent comments about previous NBA eras. In a Wall Street Journal feature, Edwards stirred controversy by suggesting that, aside from Michael Jordan, players from earlier eras, up until the late 1990s, lacked “skill.”
Johnson, a key figure of the Showtime Lakers and a prime example of skill in that era, addressed Edwards’ remarks during a panel interview with Stephen A. Smith. “I don’t ever respond to a guy that’s never won a championship. There’s nothing to really say,” Johnson stated. “He didn’t win a college championship, and I’m not sure if he even won a high school championship.”
Though Edwards did win a Class AAA championship in Georgia during high school, it doesn’t seem to sway Johnson’s point. As one of the most skilled NBA players ever, it was only natural that Johnson would push back against Edwards’ claims.
Johnson isn’t the only Hall of Famer to take issue with Edwards’ comments, and he likely won’t be the last.
