[Saba Sports News] The 2024 Asian Badminton Team
Championship and Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers are scheduled to take place in
Selangor, Malaysia from February 13th to 18th. The draw for the event was
recently conducted. Since the Korean women’s team is the defending champion,
they have automatically qualified for the Uber Cup in April. Additionally, due
to the Olympic year and player fatigue concerns, Korea did not send a
delegation to participate in this event. As a result, only 11 countries or
regions will be participating in the women’s team category of this year’s Asian
Championships. According to the tournament rules, these teams will be divided into
four groups, with the top two from each group directly qualifying for the top
8. Consequently, only two teams from each group will compete, automatically
advancing to the top 8. Based on the draw results, the Chinese and Indian teams
have been fortunate in securing their places. However, the Chinese and Indian
teams will still need to compete within their groups to determine the group
rankings. In the editor’s opinion, this grouping situation has its pros and
cons. On the one hand, it allows the Chinese and Indian teams to conserve their
energy, but on the other hand, it reduces the opportunities for young players
from these countries to gain experience and accumulate points.
