[Saba Sports News] The Malaysian men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia Teng Fong and Soh Wooi Yik, who won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, have returned to their homeland. However, in a recent media interview, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the quality of the bronze medal. Within less than ten days, the medal has started to fade, appearing dull and rusted. It is known that the gold medals at the Paris Olympics are mainly made of silver, with a layer of gold plating. Bronze medals are typically made from a mixture of copper, zinc, and tin, known as bronze. If bronze is not protected, it will react with oxygen in the air, resulting in a dull copper rust. Therefore, the clear answer is that this particular bronze medal was not properly protected. In response to this issue, the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee has promised to replace the damaged medals and reproduce them with improved craftsmanship to ensure their quality remains intact. However, this quality issue has put the Paris Olympics in an embarrassing situation and raised doubts about the organization of the event and the meticulousness of medal production.
