Sports News] Nyck de Vries, a talented driver who had success in F2 and Formula
E, entered Formula 1 and served as Toro Rosso’s reserve driver for a
considerable period. However, the 28-year-old driver had a disappointing rookie
season in F1, failing to score any points, which led to his dismissal from Toro
Rosso after just 10 races. Recently, De Vries shared his emotions regarding
being let go, expressing sadness that his Formula 1 dream was ending so
abruptly but also finding joy in the opportunity to compete in Formula E. De Vries
views his short F1 career as a chapter in his journey and is determined to
continue his racing career elsewhere. He believes that when one door closes,
another always opens, and even in the face of disappointment, one should
approach it with optimism. In the 2023-24 season, De Vries will join Mahindra
Racing in Formula E, partnering with Edoardo Mortara. Records show that De
Vries began his racing career in 2008, winning championships in the KF3 class
in the WSK World Karting Series and the German Junior Karting Championship. In
the 2019-20 season, he joined the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E team and secured
third place in the team standings. After continued efforts, De Vries became the
reserve driver for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team in 2021. However, his skills were
deemed inadequate, and he failed to establish himself in the F1 arena.
