[Saba Sports News] Bam Adebayo kept the receipts on Brian Windhorst.
Ahead of Team USA’s group-stage game against South Sudan at the Paris Olympics, ESPN’s Windhorst suggested a lineup change, specifically mentioning Adebayo as a candidate to be benched due to South Sudan’s “athletic wing players.” However, Adebayo was not benched and shined in the game, scoring a team-high 18 points, grabbing seven rebounds, blocking two shots, and hitting two three-pointers in 20 minutes. Team USA won 103-86.
After the game, Adebayo trolled Windhorst on social media by posting the clip of Windhorst’s comments with the famous 50 Cent “What he say f–k me for?” meme.
It was odd to suggest benching Adebayo, a four-time All-Defensive selection known for his defensive versatility. Adebayo’s standout performance against South Sudan made Windhorst’s take look even more misguided.
Windhorst’s broader point was likely about Team USA’s depth requiring rotation based on matchups, which led to notable benchings in previous games. However, Adebayo, who has excelled alongside Anthony Davis, clearly won’t be benched anytime soon.
