[Saba Sports News] The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are set to reappoint former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer as their head coach, just a day after reports surfaced about the franchise seeking an Indian coach.
Jaffer will rejoin the Mohali-based team for the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, marking his third tenure with PBKS. He previously served as the batting coach from 2019 to 2021 before resigning ahead of the IPL 2022 auction and was the batting consultant in 2023.
During his earlier stints, the team’s batting performance was lackluster, scoring only 9,482 runs in 1,100 overs at a run rate of 8.63, which was below par compared to other franchises.
Jaffer, who played 31 Tests for India, faces a significant challenge as PBKS has not reached the playoffs for ten consecutive seasons since their only IPL final appearance in 2014, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
PBKS struggled after parting ways with Jaffer, finishing ninth out of ten franchises, just above Mumbai Indians.
