[Saba Sports News] One Oklahoma City Thunder player won’t be around for the team’s promising shot at an NBA title.
Veteran big man Mike Muscala announced his retirement from the NBA to Joel Lorenzi of The Oklahoman on Saturday. Muscala, 33, is retiring after 11 seasons in the league.
“Grateful for it all,” Muscala said via text.
Lorenzi added that Muscala plans to enroll in graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in sports management, with hopes of venturing into basketball coaching or administration.
Muscala, a 2013 second-round draft pick, was known for his three-point shooting (37.3 percent for his career). The 6-foot-10 stretch big man played for seven NBA teams (Atlanta, Philadelphia, the L.A. Lakers, OKC, Boston, Washington, and Detroit). Last season with the Thunder, Muscala averaged 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.7 minutes per game.
Although the Thunder have bolstered their roster with Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein, Muscala, who earned approximately $28.4 million in his career, won’t be part of the journey. Fans can still look forward to seeing Muscala’s wholesome updates on LinkedIn.
