[Saba Sports News] Anthony Edwards exudes confidence on the court, but even he isn’t immune to jitters.
On Wednesday, Team USA played its first of five exhibition games leading up to the Paris Olympics. Edwards came off the bench and led all scorers with 13 points in an 86-72 win over Canada. He hit a three-pointer at the buzzer in the first half, giving Team USA an eight-point lead they never relinquished.
Despite the game being an exhibition, Edwards admitted to reporters that he felt nervous.
“I was nervous for real, I ain’t gonna lie,” Edwards said. “I told (LeBron James) … I ain’t been nervous in a minute. My first time playing in the Olympics. I definitely was nervous.”
At just 22, Edwards has significant experience in high-stakes games, having led the Timberwolves to the playoffs the past three seasons. His nerves during an Olympic tune-up highlight the importance of representing the U.S. in the Olympics for NBA stars.
One thing is clear — Edwards is confident he can handle the international stage, as shown by his recent bold comments about his place on Team USA.
