[Saba Sports News] On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Jared McCain, a guard from Duke known for his TikTok presence, with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Unsurprisingly, McCain promptly shared several dance videos on TikTok, showcasing what he called “the best dance out” to BlackMayo’s “Jus’ Know”.
This trend continued on Friday night when McCain posted his first video wearing a 76ers uniform. Philadelphia’s social media team must be excited, though there could also be apprehension.
Critics were quick to suggest that McCain’s style might not sit well in Philadelphia, especially with teammates like Joel Embiid. Despite the scrutiny, the 20-year-old remains steadfast in his approach.
“I owe it to my upbringing,” McCain told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “My family taught me to be confident, work hard, and pursue my passions. Whether it’s painting my nails or making TikToks, it’s about being true to myself, regardless of others’ opinions.”
While McCain embraces being himself, he’ll soon discover Philadelphia’s demanding sports culture. Fans will appreciate his style if the team performs well, but any decline in performance could swiftly change perceptions.
