[Saba Sports News] The Houston Rockets might be willing to shift strategies dramatically.
In a Wednesday appearance on “Get Up,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested that Houston could be open to trading young big man Alperen Sengun. With the Rockets holding the No. 3 overall pick in this week’s draft, Windhorst mentioned their interest in trading for Kevin Durant, potentially making Sengun the centerpiece of an offer to the Phoenix Suns.
“If the Rockets draft UConn’s Donovan Clingan, another center, they could then consider trading Alperen Sengun, their talented young Turkish center, to the Suns,” said Windhorst.
Trading the 21-year-old Sengun would be surprising, as he is considered Houston’s most foundational player, often compared to Nikola Jokic. Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game last season and has significant potential for growth.
Despite losing Sengun to a knee injury in early March, the Rockets finished the season strong with a 12-6 record. With their high-lottery pick, Houston has good options to strengthen their roster.
The Rockets have shown serious interest in acquiring Durant and have made recent trade moves to enhance their offer. Including Sengun in a potential deal underscores their determination.
