[Saba Sports News] At the recently concluded Singapore Badminton Open, the Chinese mixed doubles pair Zheng Yu and Zhang Shu Xian were eliminated in the first round by their fellow Chinese teammates Li Wen Mei and Liu Xuan Xuan. Zheng Yu, one of the key players in the Chinese badminton team, has missed the Olympic Games for two consecutive years, which has left her feeling uncomfortable. Yesterday, some media outlets broke the news that the 28-year-old Zheng Yu intends to retire and pursue a career as a badminton coach at Shandong Agricultural University. The announcement of Zheng Yu’s retirement has sparked a heated discussion among fans and the media. It is revealed that Zheng Yu started playing badminton at the age of 7, introduced to the sport by her parents’ friends. She displayed exceptional talent and quickly progressed. In 2010, Zheng Yu joined the Chinese badminton national team after her outstanding performance in the China Youth Championship. Despite a slow start due to intense competition pressure, Zheng Yu solidified her position in the national team after her third attempt in 2017. Although her partnership with Zhang Shuxian showed promise, they were unable to achieve notable success. Neither Zheng Yu nor the Chinese Badminton Team have made any public statements regarding this matter.
