[Saba Sports News] The FIA recently announced the new technical rules for the 2026 Formula 1 season. One of the significant changes is a reduction of 30 kilograms in the overall weight of the cars. However, many drivers, including seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, are not pleased with this modification. Hamilton believes that while the FIA is heading in the right direction, the cars under the new rules are still too heavy. Although Hamilton has not yet tested the 2026 F1 car in the simulator, he has heard from other drivers that the car is “quite slow.” Despite this, Hamilton supports the reform of the power unit and believes that making the cars more efficient, faster, and realistically improved will enhance the sport. As early as 2021, Hamilton expressed in an interview that F1 has been moving in the wrong direction with its reforms, particularly in regards to the increasing weight of the cars. Due to safety structures and other additions, the weight of F1 cars has steadily increased over the years. Hamilton argues that an “overweight” car will undoubtedly be less agile.
