[Saba Sports News] In the 2024 Malaysia Badminton Masters, the Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See suffered a 0-2 loss to the Chinese pair Cheng Xing/LI Qian, ending their run in the first round. Despite the less-than-ideal outcome, Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See graciously waved to the audience and even took photos with fans on the sidelines as they left the court. Following the match, the 36-year-old veteran Chan Peng Soon and 28-year-old Cheah Yee See jointly announced their retirement, stating that this was their final international competition. Chan’s retirement marks the official conclusion of Malaysia’s golden generation of players. Throughout his career, Chan had a total of 12 partners, with his most successful partnership being with Goh Liu Ying in mixed doubles. They won the silver medal in mixed doubles at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and he achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 3. Chan Peng Soon and Lee Chong Wei, players of the same era, had the shared goal of bringing a badminton world championship title to Malaysia. However, their generation unfortunately did not achieve this feat. It was their juniors, Aaron Chia Teng Fong and Soh Wooi Yik, who eventually accomplished this milestone.
